Moody, romantic jazz with a touch of melancholy that antisipates the tragic, ironic story ending.
The theme is one off Barry's best melodies and
"Matty Was Mary Ann" (closing credits) is the best version of it. No re-recording of this track or of the album begins to capture the emotion of this orchestral slow dance.
Surely, someone can arrange to relieve our suffering by re-releasing the original? Or maybe Stromberg and Morgan can re-record it and get it right?
I have three 45rpm vinyl copies which, I'm afraid, are not for sale. I suspect owners of this soundtrack cleave to it with tenacity.
