Fresh, Winning Henry Mancini Score - Well Worth the Wait. by filmfactsman (June 21, 2005)
Right smack in between Breakfast at Tiffany's and Charade, Henry Mancini composed this pleasant, breezy score for one of the most memorable (and somewhat overlooked) Jimmy Stewart comedies. Why carp that it took only 40 years to get released? I'm just grateful that it's now available! Beginning with one of the most sparkling title tracks I can remember, this charming score will brighten every listener's day with a wonderful sound that recalls the best of the swinging sixties mood. This premiere release offers the complete score presented in stereo, mastered from original session elements. Also included are two bonus recordings of main and secondary themes, not used in finished film. This is Mancini at his very best.
Look for the long-awaited release of Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation, making it's DVD debut in early September. James Stewart was awarded the Berlin Film Festival's Silver Bear Award as Best Actor of 1962 for his wonderful performance in it.
