Great 70's tunes from great 70's film
by a soundtrack collector (March 3, 2006)
The soundtrack to this forgotten (camp) gem of a film is surprisingly easy on the ears. The instrumental tracks are pleasant going even if you havent seen the film, but the vocal tracks are the standouts. The lead track "As Far As I'm Concerned" is like a late 60's folk song and has great lyrics. The singer is Bobby Russell of "The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia" fame and his then - wife, Vicki Lawrence (of "The Carol Burnett Show") sings the wistful, "Used to Be. "
"La De Da" is a little ditty best stomached by watching the film. Two singers with high, piping voices warble in a singsong that is sure to get stuck in you head like a commercial jingle. My favorite cut is "Look Again, Turn Around" by Brooklyn Bridge. A terrific pop/rock tune that ends the album on the right note; just before you get to that Sousa march, which is hilarious but one listen is enough.
Excellent soundtrack. I was 12 when it was released as an album and remember vividly the sexy naked foldout cover of Jackie Bisset and Chris Stone kissing in a shower. You don't see much but I remember Chris Stone's tanned butt to this day.
