Not for anyone expecting brilliance. by Victor Field (January 31, 2004)
Like "The Thing" and "Memoirs of an Invisible Man," "Starman" is one of the few John Carpenter movies which he let someone else write the music for, but the late Jack Nitzsche's music (performed uncredited [on the album, not the movie] by Anthony Marinelli and Brian Banks) suffers from that age-old malady of Working Fine In The Movie But Not So Great On Its Own. Only Nitzsche's seven-minute ending and end credits track really works; note also that the Jeff Bridges-Karen Allen duet isn't in the movie.
