Actually a rather solid score...
by
Alex (June 17, 2006)
This one kinda surprised me. For one, Wishmaster 2 is an incredibly silly movie without much brains or sense. That's why I was surprised to hear David William's score and thinking that it was actually rather nice and personal score that, simply put, deserves to be in a better movie. Willaims implores the use of a large orchestra, with everything from woodwinds to harps, ominous male vocals, and most interestingly, Egyptian percussion. The main theme (presented strongly in "The Robbery", "Wishmaster's Reslove" and the End Credits track) is especially strong.
Like many horror films these days, unfortunately, the score is also plagued with plenty of 'orchestral carnage' tracks--you know, booming and screeching brass that is supposed to 'up' the action level. This may work on film, but falls short on CD and makes for dificult listening. Thankfully many of these tracks are short and far between.
Willaims is a composer who I believe has some talent (see his atmospheric score for the film "Phantoms") but unfortunately he rarely gets to showcase his work on good movies. Maybe one day...
Anyways, a fine score overall, and surprisingly of higher quality than the movie.
