A True Captivation of the Imaginative Heart...
by a soundtrack collector (October 16, 2006)
I love the score of this film by Cliff Martinez. I remember as soon as I finished watching the movie, I drove 45 miles to look for the score on cd. I found it at a Barnes & Noble no less. The music was amazing. I am a hopeless romantic, so it's really spoke to me in the film. Most scenes I just felt froze watching. Clooney gave an amazing performance in my opinion. The score is truly unlike any other in my collection, but truly love it's affect on me. I always enjoy listening to it while I rewatch the scenes in my head. Highly recommend!

Stunning- a soundtrack for a thinking person's movie

Cliff Martinez was someone I had never heard of at the time I first saw "Solaris". So intrigued was I by the concept of the movie and the questions it raised I actually sat through the older version of the film from about 30 years ago. Needless to say it never really answered any of my questions as to what Solaris truly is..in any case, the soundtrack to this film was front and center. This film is done a great deal like 2001- lots of imagery with music and not much dialogue..I was absolutely stunned by its artistic use here. The film is one of my favorites, you are never truly sure of the ending- and the score is a top five. While it is true its rare, a word to the hopeful, I found mine at Barnes and Noble a little over a year ago for $17. Another of Mr. Martinez not to be missed and similar to Solaris- his score for Traffic. Traffic is a bit more affordable and easier to find until you can find your own copy of Solaris. I look forward to as many scores as Mr. Martinez is willing to produce!

Wonderful!

A really beautiful score here from Mr. Martinez. Listening to the music brings to mind the words "ethereal" and "hypnotic", among others. I wasn't a huge fan of the film itself, but Cliff's beautiful, unique, harmonizing score certainly made it endurable.
This album is unfortuantely very rare (the current lowest price on ebay is a little over eighty dollars!!!) but certainly worth tracking down.
Great stuff.
