Amongst Elfman's finest!
by
Alex (July 2, 2006)
I don't know how a sci-fi score or Elfman fan can not own this album. Of course the main M.I.B. theme is memorable and fun, but compared to some of the music presented on the disc, the theme is only secondary. There are some very emotional or thematic motifs, such as "J Contemplates", and some sweeping and exciting tracks--such as "The Suit"--that are pure Elfman going all-out with the orchestra to great effect. Some cues are sad ("Petit Mort"), others short but sweet ("K Reminisces").

The first 50 or so seconds of "Orion's Belt/Cat Stinger" is truly masterful and awe-inspring; truly some of Elfman's best work, period. Brilliant. The second to last track, "Finale", is another great highlight, taking various themes heard throughout the album and rolling them all into one solid track. The score closes with a reprisal of the main M.I.B. motif.
The score also never overstays it's welcome, coming in at a little over fourty minutes. A great album that all Elfman enthusiasts will enjoy.
Recommended!
