I'm everyone - and no one. Everywhere - nowhere. Call me... Darkman.
by
Graeme Watson (August 5, 2006)
I recently viewed the Darkman movie in the 12 midnight to 2am slot on TV, aware that it had been scored by Danny Elfman. The film wasnt bad and I was impressed with the score, being significantly darker than recent Elfman offerings, hearkening back to those days when twinkly little motifs were not the mainstay of the music.

It pervays the tragedy of the Darkman character well, and his theme is well woven into many tracks. There is a pleasant "Love Theme" that appears throughout the score, although I feel it has been under-used.

There are other reviewers who suggest Darkman is a re-hash of Elfman's 1989 Batman score, but as a fan of both Elfman and the film in question I found that it can be listened to on its own merit quite easily.

It was quite difficult to obtain in the second-hand market for a reasonable price, but if you are a collector of Elfman or Superhero Scores, it's worth having.

NB:
I do suggest that you see the film beforehand to see if you like this score; I don't think it will appeal to everybody, in the way that "Edward Scissorhands" does for example.
