Biography
Misha Segal is an Emmy Award winning composer, recording artist, songwriter and producer. A vanguard in his native Israel, Misha's jazz, rock and pop influences helped change the face of contemporary music, garnering numerous #1 hits on the pop charts. In addition, he composed for the theater and scored a host of feature films and television shows. Misha's classical compositions have been performed by the Israeli Philharmonic and the Israeli Chamber Ensemble.
In the US he wrote, arranged and produced for RCA, CBS, Vanguard, Mercury and others. He worked as songwriter, arranger and producer with such artists as Luther Vandross, Smokey Robinson, Nancy Wilson, Bob James, Phyllis Hyman, Carl Anderson, Maynard Ferguson and Dave Grusin. Signed to Motown as a composer/ songwriter, he scored BERRY GORDY'S THE LAST DRAGON and wrote numerous songs.
Among his accomplishments are an Emmy Award and Emmy nomination, scores for major motion pictures such as PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, PIPPI LONGSTOCKING, THE ANIMATED VERSION OF THE SECRET GARDEN and MEN OF RESPECT.
As a recording artist, Misha's first CD, ZAMBOOKA (Music Masters) features legendary artists Chick Corea, Freddy Hubbard and Mark Isham. Misha's next CD, CONNECTED TO THE UNEXPECTED, was released by JVC records. It was picked up by the top NAC stations around the nation and over 200 college stations. The reviewers praised it as possibly a "new genre in music."
DON'T SAY IT'S OVER (Warner Brothers) produced and co-written by Misha, features vocalist Randy Crawford. This CD spent three weeks at No. 1 on the NAC charts.
In the new millenium, Misha has continued composing for the film and TV industry along with pouring his heart into two new music projects.
One is a new Jazz concept to follow up the success of his first two albums. He is building a band and will hopefully be offering some concert dates soon! (Check his website for updates on this.)
The second is PrimaVista Records, his own label that holds as its purpose to inject quality and high aesthetic values into an ailing society. His first release on this label is called FEMALE. It is a collection of romantic piano pieces dedicated to the memory of his mother, Elisabeth.
