Shops in MUNICH?
Hello,
I'm going to the great NACHT DER FILMMUSIK (Night of Film Music - www.nachtderfilmmusik.de) in Munich next weekend (28 October) and would like to know if anyone of you can recommend good stores to look for soundtracks in Munich as I will have enough time on the days around to browse through them.
I know about Müller, but apart from that, the CD/record shop scene in Munich seemed pretty thin the last time I was there (two years ago for the same event and the Morricone concert).
Which of Munich's SATURN stores have big soundtrack sections?
I'd be grateful for recommendations.
Regards,
Urs

Hi,
I can recommend WOM - World of Music located on Marien's Platz near Stachus. But I have not been there for some time. But when I was there I found many many great scores, that I could not find anywhere else. There are 2 WOMs near Stachus, one accross the street and the other one in the direction of Marien's Platz (sorry for the spelling).
regards

Thanks for reminding me of WOM. When I was in Munich two years ago, a big CD store had just closed down, I think it was either WOM or HMV. But according to WOM's website, they still seem to have a store (or a music section inside another store) in downtown Munich and I will surely check it out.

Hi,
WOM has closed 3 years ago. None of Munichs Saturn and Media Markt stores has great Soundtrack sections.
I recommand the used record stores.
I don't know the correct adresses. So I give you only the streets and underground stations.
Aventin Strasse. Underground Isartorplatz.
Rosenheimer Strasse. Underground Rosenheimer Platz.
Theresien Strasse. Underground Theresienstrasse.
Kreuz Strasse. Underground Sendlinger Tor Platz.
Fraunhofer Strasse. Underground Fraunhofer Strasse.Elsässer Strasse. Underground Ostbahnhof
Barer Strasse north of Schelling Strasse. Only available by Tram from Stachus or Sendlinger Tor Platz.
Nordend Strasse. North of Elisabetplatz. Same tram as Barer Strasse.
Don't try to visit these places by car. No parking available. The police is very fast with tickets.
You can get a one day ticket from the MVV for about 5 Euro per person. With this ticket, you can reach all the above adresses.
By the way, the concert is aired live on Bayern 4 Klassik.
Hope this helps.

Hi souston,
thanks for your detailed list. Much to my surprise it was quite easy to find all the shops you mentioned - despite my original worries that I would run up and down most of these streets several times without finding the shops ;-) I also recommend to buy a single day ticket for (currently) 4.80€
Just in case anyone will revisit this thread, I will add some info to your list. I'm also putting your suggestions into an order that worked out fine for me as an itinerary (please note: many of these shops are only open from the afternoon into the evening - 3pm to 6pm is your safest chance to find them open):
1) MONO (closed on mondays) - Elsässer Strasse 19. Underground Ostbahnhof
2) M2 ("Music - 2nd hand" main shop) Rosenheimer Strasse 77. Underground Rosenheimer Platz
3) DOCK'S CD-BÖRSE www.cdboerse-muenchen.de - Aventinstrasse 8. Underground Isartorplatz
4) PHONIX GMBH / SCHALLPLATTENZENTRALE MÜNCHEN www.schallplattenzentrale.de (closed on mondays) - Fraunhofer Strasse 26. Underground Fraunhofer Strasse.
5) (I've not memorized the name, but this shop was very easy to find from the underground exit Kreuzstrasse.) Underground Sendlinger Tor Platz.
6) SECOND MUSIK AND FUN, Theresienstrasse 114-116. Underground Theresienstrasse.
7) (I've not memorized the name) Barer Strasse north of Schelling-Strasse. Only available by Tram from Stachus or Sendlinger Tor Platz.
8) M2 ("Music - 2nd hand", shop #2), Nordendstrasse 41. North of Elisabethplatz. Same tram as Barer Strasse.
Oh, and I think all these shops are worth a visit. I picked up John Powell's ENDURANCE for 9.00 € and could have bought PHANTOM MENACE (Ultimate Edition) for 12.50 €, though both showed clear traces of use and wear-off (which made me only buy the former and not the latter). I also picked up a 2CD PEER RABEN set for 5.99 € which seemed to be like a promo compilation of his.
Last but not least, there still is a very small and rather uninteresting WOM section in Munich's Karstadt department store at Neuhauser Strasse 18. I would rather recommend to check out the MÜLLER store at Tal 23. I picked up Joel Goldsmith's DIAMONDS for 2€ there and they had the gorgeous 3-disc set IL GATTOPARDO (THE LEOPARD, 2 DVDs including a 45 minute Rota biography plus the soundtrack CD) for 9.99€.
Thanks again,
Urs
