Warner Home Video limited box sets

Hello!

A two part question...

Besides the extended and worthy cd soundtarcks of ''Enter The Dragon'', ''The Exorcist'' and ''The Wild Bunch'' once sold seperataly by FSM and which were also included in the Warner Home Video limited box sets, are there any other cd soundtarcks from these box sets worth hunting down?

I did check SC's database which lists 8 seperate Warner Home Video soundtrack listings but the only ones which seem worthwhile are the titles mentioned above.

Any more titles perhaps not listed in SC's database which have extended music not found in any other CD release and can only be found inside these specific box sets?

As a side note, I recently rented ''Sleepless In Seattle'' on DVD which to my pleasant suprise had an isolated music track (I think that's what it's called) as one of the many special features on it.

Under this special feature which I found pretty cool, the film played on with no dialogue but whenever there was any type of music in the movie I would suddenly only hear this particular music underlining the scene. Wow!

I never until now had the opportunity to check out a feature like this one.

Is this what an isolated DVD music track is?

Any DVD titles you guys can think off hand which are worthwhile renting or purchasing which have an isolated music track?

I don't know how this is done and if it is technologically possible but it would be fantastic if every film released on DVD had an isolated music track.

I mean it might sound hypothetical and far fetched but it would be awesome for all sorts of film music devotees including people who study film music and an even greater incentive to purchase DVD's (at least for me) in addition to the fact that this special feature would honor in a special way ALL artists and ALL the music included in the film.

Am I once more slowly creeping into the broad and boring world of copyright infringement if this was done? I don't know, am I?

Anyway, it would be like having the complete music used in the film regardless it being the original film score, library music, source music, songs... what have you.

I can't get over this feature!

Cheers!...

BOXING HELENA S.E. Laser Disc came with the CD which is unavailable any other way.

DUST DEVIL DVD and (Dario Argento's) OPERA both had CD soundtracks in them.

JAWS S.E. LD had the CD along with DANCES WITH WOLVES. Both of these were the original release CDs. Infact my JAWS had a whole punched in it.

MYSTIC RIVER S.E. came with the original release CD as well.

Full Metal jacket also has a deluxe box set, like ACo und 2001.

The Italian Malena had also the Ennio Morricone cd in the dvd box. Same music as the itallian standard cd wich had more tracks than the American cd.
The Ben hur DVD special edition has an isolated music track, so does the laserdisc The Omen by Jerry Goldsmith and Chinatown.
The Sound of Music also. Same for 1941 by John Williams.

serifiot, I bought many DVDS more or less solely for the isolated score track feature, among those

THE BONE COLLECTOR (Craig Armstrong)
LEGENDS OF THE FALL (James Horner)
ALIEN (Goldsmith - included TWO isolated score tracks!)
THE CORPSE BRIDE (Danny Elfman)
DOCTOR ZHIVAGO (Maurice Jarre)
PAPILLON (Jerry Goldsmith)
SUPERMAN (John Williams)
THE NINTH GATE (Wojciech Kilar)
MARS ATTACKS! (Danny Elfman)
THE LAST MOHICAN (Randy Edelman/Trevor Jones)

I find it a fantastic feature. Unfortunately most of these isolated score tracks could be found on DVDs from around 1999-2001. Afterwards they slowly reduced the use of it.

If you look out for these, check if you have the right version. Sometimes the Region 1 has the isolated score track and the Region 2 does not or vice versa.
For example, the Region 1 version of BEN-HUR (4DVD set) has the isolated score, the Region 2 version does NOT (although the package claims that).

- As for soundtrack CDs included in DVD sets, there were quite a couple of those in Germany, most of them with Varese CDs. The only rare one I can recommend is Don Davis' THE UNSAID. The German DVD release included a score CD with more music than the official soundtrack release on the Prometheus label. However, it seems that the DVD+CD coupling was not authorized by Don Davis.

Regards,

Urs

Thanks for all your responses! It seems I would be on the hunt for a lot of the suggested titles. I'm even contemplaiting in purchasing a used laserdisc player. I must admit that some of the laserdisc jackets have beautiful BIG art work!

The FIRST releases of the DVD special editions of Apollo 13 and
The Mummy had the full-length score playing under their menu.
But only on the region 1 version (USA)

A good list of DVDs with isolated scores is

http://www.treuherz.de/ralf/scores/dvdlist.htm

It seems not to have gotten any update since 2005 though, but then again there haven't been that many new DVDs with isolated scores. There are similar lists on other sites, but several of them just use this one with a different layout.

Thanks Urs, good website!...

I just googled 'isolated DVD score list' and came up with a lot of informative websites leading to isolated DVD score info including a nice link to SoundtrackNet which was listed first and has a few more titles listed as well.
