John Powell's Ice Age: The Meltdown
24-Apr-2006 - John Powell has scored the animated feature Ice Age 2: The Meltdown. Powell has grown to a leading composer in the animation genre, with Shrek, Chicken Run, Road to El Dorado and Antz under his belt, and Happy Feet coming in “Novemburrrr,” but also with music for action features like The Bourne Identity and jazzy scores for Be Cool and Alfie. Powell has recorded the score with a choir for one day, and then with a 100-piece orchestra for five days. John Leguizamo, the voice of “Sid,” leaded the choir in one number, which Powell described as “a cross between a sing-along rock concert and an Indonesian monkey chant.” Powell also recorded an arrangement of “Food, Glorious Food,” from the Broadway musical Oliver, sung by vultures.
