Harry Potter meets Wim Mertens
9-May-2006 - Saterday, June 10, the 3rd film music concert of the Flanders International Filmfestival, co-produced by the Kursaal Oostende and the Flemish Radio Orchestra. It will be an enchanted meeting between the music of John Williams and that of Patrick Doyle for the Harry Potter movies and the film music of Belgian composer Wim Mertens, who will play the piano. The conductor is the well-known composer and conductor, Dirk Brossé.

The first part of the concert is devoted to the music of Wim Mertens, who will perform, together with the Flemish Radio Orchestra, music from Peter Greenaways The Belly of an Architect, Damiaan and from the new German Arthouse movie Der Lebensversicherer.

The second part of the concert will be dominated by the music of the four Harry Potter movies. John Williams wrote the first three scores and for the fourth movie, Patrick Doyle accepted the challenge to equal the master. And he did a marvellous job with fresh sounding music, without using the themes from the first three movies. The concert Harry Potter Meets Wim Mertens promises musical fireworks with conductor Dirk Brossé waving his magical baton.
