Rachel Portman's The Lake House
6-Jul-2006 - Lakeshore Records has released the soundtrack for The Lake House, the story of a lonely doctor (Sandra Bullock) who once occupied an unusual lakeside home and begins exchanging love letters with its newest resident, a frustrated architect (Kenau Reeves). They must try to unravel the mystery behind their extraordinary romance before it's too late. The first five tracks on the soundtrack are wonderfully wistful songs. Paul McCartney's "This Never Happened Before" from his 2005 album Chaos and Creation in the Backyard, sets the tone. The rest of the album is made up of Rachel Portman's intimately romantic score. She makes good use of melody lines driven sometimes by a piano and sometimes an acoustic guitar, while also ensuring that the orchestra never threatens to overwhelm them. Buy from Amazon.
