Benedikt Brydern's Dark Remains
7-Dec-2006 -

The score for Dark Remains adds to it's creepiness.

Con Sordino Music has released Benedikt Brydern's score to the award-winning indie supernatural horror film Dark Remains on December 1, 2006.

The story.
When the daughter Emma of the technical writer Allen Pyke and the photographer Julie is found slashed in the throat and wrists in their locked apartment, the couple decides to move to an isolated cabin in the mountains in Kingspike. Julie is very depressed and blames Allen for the death of Emma. Once in the new home, Julie sees the spirit of Emma in a photo she took in a nearby abandoned prison and she becomes obsessed shooting pictures of poltergeists. Allen is advised to move from the place by the local Jim Payne, and on May 21st, Allen finds that the former dwellers of the cabin have committed suicide, and he investigates the death in the spot and finds that many people died around May 22nd. He decides to move with Julie to a hotel, but she does not want to give up on Emma.

The score.
Although this is a score for a horror film, the music is not in the style of most nowadays horror music. Besides one or two short pieces, this time no atonal music or loud noise from a large orchestra. On the contrary, most of the time the music is very pleasant and exciting to listen to. Highly recommended, also for horror music haters. Director Brian Avenet Bradley about the score: "Benedikt Brydern interpreted what I wanted and created musical pieces to best fit the tone of Dark Remains. More than any other genre, music can make or break a horror film. Benedikt's finished score propels the film forward, sells the suspense, and builds the atmosphere perfectly."
