A Tribute to Film Music

After the great success of the 2005 film music concert, the European Film Academy and the Flanders International Film Festival-Ghent again present a special concert by the Flemish Radio Orchestra under Dirk Brossé. As one of the highlights of the festivities for the 20th European Film Awards, Happy Birthday, European Film Academy! - European Film Composers In Concert  will take place on Friday, November 30, at Berlin’s historical theatre Admiralspalast.

The Flemish Radio Orchestra will perform music by renowned European film music composers, such as Peer Raben (Querelle, 2046) and Georges Delerue (La Nuit Américaine). Present to introduce their work will be Craig Armstrong (Moulin Rouge), Wim Mertens (The Belly of an Architect), Jean-Claude Petit (Cyrano De Bergerac), David Arnold (Casino Royale), Nicola Piovani (La Vita é bella), and Wojciech Kilar (The Pianist).

The festival aims to bring Europe's rich film music tradition to an audience that will include European film press and many prominent figures from the European world of film. The Flemish Radio Orchestra has already performed on stage in Berlin when the Flanders Film Festival and the European Film Academy presented 'The Music of the Image' concert in 2005. This concert saw a minute-long standing ovation from the international audience and was a high light in the career of both the Flemish Radio Orchestra and the Flanders International Film Festival-Ghent.

The Flemish Radio Orchestra will also take to the stage twice at the 34th edition of the Flanders International Film Festival Ghent: for the film music concert by Spanish composer Alberto Iglesias on 19th October, and for the distribution of the World Soundtrack Awards on 20th October and its accompanying concert. At the latter, the Flemish Radio Orchestra will perform music by composers Mychael Danna, Harry Gregson-Williams, Evanthia Reboutsika, Mikis Theodorakis and Jef Neve.

The concert in Berlin is presented in co-operation with the City of Ghent, the Province of East Flanders, the Flemish Government and the Admiralspalast and with the support of Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg.

Tickets range from 10 to 50 Euro and are available through the website of the Admiralspalast and through the regular ticket outlets.
