The new Varèse CD Club releases...
19-Nov-2007 - Varèse Sarabande has announced the release of 5 new CD Club releases. The first one is Neighbors (1981), with a score composed and conducted by Bill Conti. Also on this CD is the unused score composed by Tom Scott. Listening to both Scott’s and Conti’s scores back to back leaves one a little bewildered over how they could possibly be for the same film.
The next one is a never before released Elmer Bernstein score, By Love Posessed (1961). Yet another classic score that would have been completely lost were it not for Elmer Bernstein himself keeping an archival tape copy in his own collection. By Love Possessed (1961) is, without a doubt, one of Elmer Bernstein’s romantic classics.
Then there is the re-recording of Bernard Herrmann's classic score for North By Northwest (1959). Joel McNeely and Robert Townson have recorded a new album, and this time they’ve headed North by Northwest! for the most complete edition of this legendary score ever available. Finally complete, and at over 65:00 of Bernard Herrmann, Joel McNeely leads the Slovak National Symphony Orchestra in a recording milestone.
The next one is Magic Fire (1955), with music composed by Richard Wagner and adapted and supervised by Erich Wolfgang Korngold. This special commemorative edition remembers both Erich Wolfgang Korngold and his son, the legendary music producer George Korngold. November 2007 marks the 50th anniversary of Erich’s death and the 20th anniversary of George’s. Neither will ever be forgotten.
And the last one is also a classic one: The Tall Man (1955), with a score by Victor Young. Appearing on CD for the very first time, and including both the final take and a never-before-heard demo of Ken Darby’s title song,
