Mel Brooks, M*A*S*H and Kubrick in New York.
11-Jul-2001 - Wednesday, July 11, the free outdoor film/music/food festival LIVING ON THE EDGE begins, with a sunset screening of the luscious and spectacular Brazilian film ORFEU at Socrates Sculpture Park in Astoria. Doors open at 7:00 p.m.; Brazilian food will be available...a live music performance begins at 7:30...and the film starts at sundown. This is a great summer event in a beautiful riverfront setting with a view of the Manhattan skyline.

The Festival is a collaboration between the Museum, Socrates Sculpture Park, and Partnerships for Parks.

This weekend, our wildly popular Mel Brooks series continues...and with better prints than last weekend, when some of the films were only available in 16mm or, in the case of THE PRODUCERS, a color-faded 35mm print. We are expecting good studio 35mm prints of YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN, HIGH ANXIETY, HISTORY OF THE WORLD PART ONE, and SPACEBALLS!

And we are very pleased to offer a beautiful new print of Robert Altman's M*A*S*H in our repertory series, with screenings on Saturday and Sunday at 6:30 p.m.

Finally...next Tuesday, July 17, the feature documentary STANLEY KUBRICK: A LIFE IN PICTURES will be shown at 7:00 p.m. at the DGA Theater, as part of our series "Moving Image at the DGA." 110 West 57th Street, Manhattan. For tickets ($12 public/$8 members), call 718-784-4520. This is a comprehensive two-hour and twenty-minute portrait of Kubrick, with a lot of rare behind-the-scenes and home-movie footage, and interview with family, friends, and colleagues, such as Woody Allen, Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, and many, many more!
