Composer of The Orphanage will attend Ubeda
8-Jan-2008 -
Fernando Velazquez will attend the Fourth International Conference
One of the young new promises in Spanish film music has confirmed his presence at the Fourth International Film Music Conference "City of Úbeda" to be held from 10 to July 13, 2008. The 31 year old composer Fernando Velazquez has delighted us with his great work for the best Spanish movie of the year El Orfanato (The Orphanage) from J.A. Bayona. Critics and audience alike were unanimous in stressing the quality of not only the film, but also the music composed for it.
His experience as a cello player in various orchestras and his training in conservatories as "Jesus Guridi" from Vitoria and composition studies in the RCSM Madrid and Paris are the foundation of his talent. Proof of this are his different compositions of symphonic music, drama, as well as his work in a diverse and large number of short films such as "Historia de un Búho" by J. L. Acosta (best soundtrack at the International Film Festival of Elche), "El Hombre Esponja" by J.A. Bayona (best original soundtrack at the Festival ALCINE of Alcala de Henares), "A las 7:35 de la mañana" by Nacho Vigalondo (best soundtrack at the Festival of Malaga and nominated for the Oscar 2005 for Best Short Film), or "El Soñador" by Oskar Santos (best soundtrack in the International Film Festival of Lenola (Italy)).
Despite his age Fernando Velazquez had already experience in the world of cinema, and especially in the terror genre, having worked on movies like "The Birthday" by Eugenio Mira (with Corey Feldman), "Bosque de Sombras (Forest of Shadows)" by Koldo Serra (with Gary Oldman and Virginie Ledoyen), or "El Síndrome Svensson" by Kepa Sojo (and which won him the award for Best Film at the Mostra Film of Valencia). And this year he will be working on other projects such as "The Zone" by Rodrigo Plá (best first film in the Venice Film Mostra 2007) and "Eskalofrio"by Isidro Ortiz.
