New from Digitmovies
4-Mar-2009 - Digitmovies has released for the first time the complete score by Ennio Morricone for the 1969 movie I Cannibali (aka The Cannibals), directed by Liliana Cavani and starring Britt Ekland, Pierre Clementi, Tomas Milian. I Cannibali – the second collaboration between director Cavani and composer Morricone after Galileo (1968) – is a modern interpretation of “Antigone”, the ancient Greek tragedy by Sophocles and set in a modern-day, clearly recognizable Milan, with patent political symbolism. The music of Ennio Morricone provides a perfect background for the strong realism of the images. The composer has created a series of fascinating instrumental variations based on the two main theme songs “Cannibal” and “Song of life” that brilliantly gives to the listener the right music mood.
The second release is, as volume XII of the series dedicated to the Italian Peplum, the complete score in full stereo by Carlo Savina for Ursus Nella Terra Di Fuoco (Ursus In The Land Of Fire). It was directed in 1963 by Giorgio Simonelli and did star Ed Fury in the role of Ursus, Claudia Mori as Mila, Luciana Gilli as Diana and Adriano Micantoni as Amilcare. Carlo Savina has composed and conducted an orchestral music score where powerfully dramatic background music for battles with frequent use of French horns alternates with sensitive love themesas well as with suspense and slightly magical themes. This is another score from between the Italian Golden Age and Silver Age that's duly saved and preserved in digitally remastered sound.
