The Varese Sarabande CD Club is back..!
25-Oct-2001 - After a nearly ten year hiatus, the Varese Sarabande CD Club is back, re-instituting a series of special limited edition releases of rare, out of print and previously unavailable film scores. There is no membership fee. Each release is limited to 3000 copies for the world, available for purchase via mail and on-line ordering only, directly from Varese Sarabande Records.
The first release is Heartbeeps (1981). Brimming with melody and incorporating a good deal more electronics than any of his other work, John Williams' score is an absolute joy. The CD, featuring nearly fifty-five minutes of music, represents the most remarkable phase of his career.
From the period of James Horner's career that included the likes of Aliens, An American Tail and Willow, Project X (1987) has been one of the composer's mostly highly requested, heretofore unavailable works. Finally, over seventy-five minutes of his score are now available.
The third release is Marie Ward (1985). While this gorgeous Elmer Bernstein score is (like the film) largely unknown today, it is a work of such poetry that no film music fan should be without it.
