Lalo Schifrin's Mambo In Paris
7-Aug-2010 - Harkit Records has released a CD with compositions and arrangements by a very young Lalo Schifrin in the swinging fifties in Paris, Mambo In Paris. If you are seeking formative influences in Lalo Schifrin's work, then this splendid album, lovingly restored from the Paris sessions of the 1950's featuring Eddie Warner's Orchestra for whom he arranged, conducted and played piano, will do the trick. An amazing breath of fresh air! Unmistakably "Lalo"! What was then called cha-cha-cha and mambo, and what we today call salsa, this hugely enjoyable album features several original compositions by Schifrin as well as by his mentor Dizzy Gillespie. His biographer, Georges Michel has written exclusive notes for this terrific album! The pinup cover image is by arrangement with Martine Brenot and Benjamin Benetti.
