New Italian Cinema
12-Aug-2011 - él Records has released New Italian Cinema. On this CD two scores: Federico Fellini's La Dolce Vita with music by Nino Rota and Michelangelo Antonioni's L'Avventura with music by Giovanni Fusco. They were the dawn of the Italian New Wave in 1960, films about the decadence, glamour and emptiness of middle class life during the economic boom of post-War Italy. Together, these groundbreaking films embody the spirit of a time in cinema when anything seemed possible and put Italian film firmly on the world stage. La Dolce Vita won the Palme d'Or in 1960, it thrilled the critics but was condemned by the Vatican and was subject to widespread censorship. Today, however, it is regarded as one of the true landmarks of film history. L'Avventura, which initially recieved a hostile reception, changed the visual language of cinema, and in 1962 the British Film Institute voted it the second best film of all time (after Citizen Kane).
