Giorgio Gaslini
Giorgio Gaslini’s score is essentially organized around one piano theme which is frequently repeated in the film to represent Barbara’s love affair. The music however is much more versatile. The composer penned a number of rally songs that play an important role in the narrative, and a pair of nervous jazz-tension pieces (which unfortunately are barely heard in the film). The CD contains more music than the film itself! The score was originally released on a brief LP by Cinevox that lasted 20 minutes. This CD debut of the score doubles the running length with great additional variations on both the jazz tunes and the romantic main theme.

Giorgio Gaslini
Giorgio Gaslini’s score is an excellent example of character themes with each major character receiving a memorable accompaniment. From Martha’s passionate motive to Diana’s decadent Baroque theme and Alex’s impotence transferred to music, this lyrical score has a hint of Gaslini’s memorable jazz compositions with some experimental psychological disturbance complimenting the larger-than-life forbidden romance. The haunting main title piece “Voce di uno strato psicológico” contains a rare solo performance by Edda dell’Orso. The CD, fully mastered and restored by Claudio Fuiano, is an expanded release of the original Cinevox LP with over 25 minutes of previously unreleased alternate recordings.
