New from Disques Cinémusique..!
5-Dec-2014 -

Disques Cinémusique has always been an ardent proponent of Georges Delerue's music, especially of his early French period, so they have decided to reissue Cartouche in a restored version which attenuates significantly the imperfections of the recording. Their goal is both to make this outstanding soundtrack available again for those who have not yet acquired it, and to encourage collectors who already own the original to get their reissue, even though it doesn’t offer new material. Indeed, the Prometheus release had all the music, including numerous compositions not used in the final cut of the film. Their only change to the program was to bring together, into a single track (06), two successive pieces that have a natural affinity. Including an 8-page colour booklet. Limited edition of 500 copies.

For his sixteenth film, Fantôme Avec Chauffeur (Ghost with Driver), Gérard Oury chose Polish composer Wojciech Kilar, a regular contributor of filmmakers Andrzej Wajda and Krzysztof Zanussi. In Ghost with Driver (1996), Philippe Noiret and Gérard Jugnot play, respectively, a rich business owner and his chauffeur. The two men never got to know each other in their lifetime, each being confined to his role and social class. Their death just a few hours apart will lead them to fraternize as spirits who have to face the problems of their relatives. Wojciech Kilar’s purpose was not so much to underline the comic effects of the story than to enhance its poetic dimension and the psychological development of the two main characters. His score performed by The Prague Symphony Orchestra is light and nostalgic, mostly melodic, tinged with a typical French style that the composer admired. One can actually detect the influence of the French school in Kilar’s abundant production, both for cinema and the concert hall.
