Howard Shore's A History Of Violence
14-Oct-2005 - New Line Records has released the score for A History Of Violence, which marks the 11th collaboration between director David Cronenberg and composer Howard Shore. In Millbrook, Indiana, Tom Stall (Viggo Mortensen) and his wife (Maria Bello) live a happy and quite life with their two children. Their idyllic existence is shattered when Tom foils a vicious attempted robbery in his diner. Heralded as a hero, Tom's life is changed overnight, attracting a national media circus, which forces him into the spotlight. It's the duality of Tom's nature that Shore addresses with the score. "The main character, Tom Stall, struggles with his own capacity for violence," said Shore. "The composition and its counterpoint were constructed to reflect Tom's dual nature...The film portrays the consequences of violence and its effect on family and community."
